Eastport, Maine

Eastport is located Way DownEast in Washington County. Catch the sun as it rises over the easternmost city in the United States with breakfast on the deck of the Waco - Maine's oldest diner, established in 1924. Incorporated as a town in 1798 and as a city in 1893, Eastport is the least populated city in Maine with a population of 1,288 (2020 census).

Stroll downtown Water Street to admire the lovingly restored historic buildings. Browse the many galleries and shops that display the work of local artists and craftspeople. Pick up sunscreen and souvenirs at S.L.Wadsworth & Son, established as a ship's chandlery in 1818. Stock up on picnic supplies at Raye's Mustard Pantry Store. Top it all off with treats at confectionary wonderland, Sweeties DownEast.

Continue to the breakwater where lobster boats and scallop trawlers set out each morning to work. Eastport is home to the deepest natural seaport in the continental United States. You might catch a cruise ship in port or a yacht moored alongside a dinghy. Chat with the fisherman who line the breakwater in hopes of catching herring to grill for dinner. Book a whale watch excursion offered daily May-Oct to delight visitors on the Passamaquoddy Bay with the magic of nature.

Refresh your body and mind at one of the many restaurants downtown, many with outdoor patios and breathtaking water views.

Eastport invites you to celebrate the USS Augusta Commissioning!
